Did you know...

Johann Sebastian Bach created the Easter Oratorio for Easter Sunday 1725, although some of the music was shrewdly parodied from a secular cantata composed some months prior. Some parts of the oratorio originated as parody movements from the birthday cantata "Entfliehet, verschwindet, entweichet, ihr Sorgen" for Christian, Duke of Saxe-Weißenfels

Bach himself thought very highly of his Easter Oratorio BWV 249 of 1725. Even though it never attained the popularity of the Christmas Oratorio, Bach himself performed it four times during his lifetime.

The FSSO will perform this impeccable composition on Friday 19 April at the The Anglican Cathedral of St Andrew and St Michael at 18h00.

This is a free concert.
