In light of Valentines Day, the FSSO's concert on the 14th of February will begin with Elgar's romantic "Salut d'amour"
which was finished in July 1888, and was composed as an engagement present to Caroline Alice Roberts. He initially called it "Liebesgruss" ('Love's Greeting') because of Miss Roberts' fluency in German.
The piece is one of Elgar's best-known works and has inspired numerous arrangements for widely varying instrumental combinations. It was even arranged as a song "Woo thou, Sweet Music" with words by A. C. Bunten, and the tune, in E major, was included to 2015 video game Fallout 4 as part of its "Classical Radio Station" songs.
Make the FSSO symphony concert taking place in the Sand Du Plessis Theatre part of your Valentines Day plans and come hear this romantic masterpiece as interpreted by the orchestra!
