Born in Parma, Carla Delfrate graduated in oboe and conduction from the “A. Boito” Conservatoire in her hometown, with the guidance of mentors Piero Guarino and Daniele Gatti.
In 1987 she founded the chamber orchestra “Il Divertimento Musicale”, that she conducted in numerous concerts, also with soloist instruments, in several Italian towns. In 1992 she was appointed principal conductor of the European Female Orchestra, performing in prestigious locations, such as the Conservatoires of Milan and Turin, and taking part in concerts broadcast on RAI and Mediaset TV channels.
After working for several years as deputy conductor in the Teatro Regio of Parma, she debuted in opera conducting, and has conducted: Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Teatro di Documenti in Rome (direction by Luciano Damiani); Paisiello’s Il barbiere di Siviglia within the Wexford Festival Opera; Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, Puccini’s Tosca, and Verdi’s La forza del destino, Attila, Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Magnani in Fidenza; Luisa Miller and Rigoletto at the Teatro Verdi of Busseto; Debussy’s L’enfant prodigue and Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana for the opening of the 2013 opera season at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona; Mozart’s Così fan tutte in the theatres Coccia of Novara, Alighieri of Ravenna, Municipale of Piacenza (direction by Giorgio Ferrara).
From 1998 to 2000 she was musical assistant for the “Arturo Toscanini” Foundation in Parma, abode of the orchestra of the same name, which she led in numerous symphonic and opera programmes, including two editions of the competition Voci Verdiane of Busseto.
She is now a professor of the Orchestra Exercises course of the Conservatoire of Mantua, after her teaching experiences in the Conservatoires in Adria, Cagliari, Milan, Bologna, Parma, and Frosinone.
Furthermore, she has conducted in the following theatres: Carlo Felice of Genoa, Teatro Regio of Parma, Teatro Lirico of Cagliari, Teatro Goldoni of Florence, Auditorium “G. Agnelli” of the Lingotto in Turin, Sala Verdi of the Conservatoire of Milan, Auditorium Paganini of Parma, Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania, Teatro Municipale of Piacenza, Teatro delle Muse of Ancona, Teatro Sociale of Mantua, Teatro Civico of Vercelli, Teatro Bonci of Cesena, Teatro Bibiena of Mantua, Auditorium of the Orchestre National de Lyon.
There are recordings of the following performances: concert dedicated to women composers (B. Giuranna, M. Martinez, F. Mendelsshon) with the European Female Orchestra; concert at the Lingotto in Turin, music by Caikovskij; Verdi’s Attila (with Michele Pertusi), French opera arias with Sonia Ganassi.
She has led the Orchestra Giovanile “Luigi Cherubini”, the Orchestra del Teatro Regio of Parma, the Orchestra Sinfonica Giovanile del Piemonte, the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Emilia Romagna “Arturo Toscanini”, the Orchestra Giovanile Nazionale Giuseppe Sinopoli, the Orchesta Filarmonica Marchigiana, the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, the Orchestra Sinfonica della Provincia di Bari, the Orquesta National de Cujo (Mendoza, Argentina), the National Symphony Orchestra (Ireland).
In 2011 she conducted Sonia Ganassi’s recital concert at the Teatro delle Muse of Ancona, 7th edition of the Corelli Prize; in 2012 she led the concert for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the reconstruction of the same theatre with the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana and the singers Jessica Pratt, Dimitra Theodossiou e Carmela Remigio.
She collaborated with soloists such as Robeto Cappello, Anna Tifu, Bin Huang, Luisa Prandina.
She was Artistic Secretary of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and of the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona. Since 2005 she had undertaken the same role within the Fondazione Orchestra Giovanile “Luigi Cherubini”, led by Riccardo Muti.
