Runette Botha is a South African born soprano who studied in Cape Town and performed in collaborative productions with the Cape Town Opera company during her studies.
She continued her Master’s studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she participated in the world premiere production of Maxwell Davies’ opera “Kommilitonen!” and also sang Miss Wordsworth in Britten’s “Albert Herring”. Runette performed alongside José Carreras in a Gala Concert in the Royal Albert Hall.

Her German debut was as Musetta in “La Bohéme” at the Staatstheater Kassel, where she also sang the Governess in Britten’s “Turn of the Screw” to great critical acclaim.
Runette joined the ensemble of the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater in 2013/14. The versatile soprano has performed various roles, such as Tatjana in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugen Onegin”, Marie in Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride” and Donna Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”. She also sung Gilda in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and Ilia in Mozart’s “Idomeneo”.
A much-loved operetta performer, Runette has performed in the operettas of Strauss, Abraham, Zeller and Jessel.

With her vivid interpretations, Runette is regularly sought after on the European concert- and oratorio stages. As a concert singer, she has performed, amongst others, Ravel’s „Shéhérazade“, Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” and Mahler’s symphonies.
The multi-award winning soprano received the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 2013 and subsequently performed at the Grahamstown Arts Festival, receiving raving reviews.
Upcoming productions include Clarice in Haydn’s “Il mondo della luna” and the title role in Thomas’ “Mignon”.

Runette stars as Hanna Glawari, a wealthy South African widow in The Merry Widow which premieres 3 August 2018 at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre.
