South African born Bass-baritone Thesele Kemane, is a graduate at the University of Cape Town and Julliard School in New York, where he was a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. He has been part of the opera studio of the Frankfurt Opera since the 2016/17 season.
He made his debut in Der Speler, Les Troyens, Pellèas et Mèlisande and Arabella, ll Trovatore, La Sonnambula and Billy Budd. He participated in the young artist program at the Glimmerglass Festival and attended the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia where he attended masterclasses with Renata Scotto.
His operatic roles include the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, Forester (The Cunning Little Vixen), Don Prudenzio (Il viaggio a Reims), Procolo (Viva la mamma), Nick Shadow (The Rake’s Progress), the title role in Don Giovanni, Lindorf (Tales of Hoffmann) and Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia).
This talented performer will grace the stage in The Merry Widow opera as Mirko Zeta, the South African Ambassador in Paris.
