Alumni Voices mainly consist of former choir members and staff of the University of the Free State, but also include alumni from other universities. The choir had the merger of VOICES Inc. in 2013. Student Chamber Choir and the like Leona Geldenhuys and the former Alumni Chamber Choir, as well as Prof Deon Lamprecht, originated. Alumni Voices has undertaken a specific production every year since 2013. The production Joy to the World, Christmas music by Karl Jenkins, in collaboration with the Drakensberg Boys Choir and with the FSSO, was held in Bloemfontein as well as at the Drakensberg Boys Choir.
The collaboration between the Drakies and Alumni Voices reached a peak during 2015 when the Gospel Mass of Robert Ray and Richard Dubra's Te Deum was presented during the festive Music in the Mountains.
The program Reflections, a composition of prayers, was carried out at the Etienne Rousseau Theater in Sasolburg as well as in the Reservoir at Oliewenhuis in Bloemfontein at the end of 2015.
SING! A choir festival and a new initiative by Leona Geldenhuys, who participated in five choirs, as well as Cantate Domino in collaboration with the OSM Camerata, were presented during the first semester of 2016.
The choir is currently under the direction of Leona Van Wyk Geldenhuys who completed a diploma at the Bloemfontein Teachers Training College, obtained BMus at the University of the Free State; an Advanced Diploma in Choral Directing (cum laude) from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth and MMus from the University of the Free State.
Alumni Voices will join the FSSO on stage to sing the celestial beauty of the #Messiah!
