The Free State Symphony Orchestra is an NGO that specializes in music education, teaching and the training needs of young musicians from different backgrounds, by providing them with the opportunity to be educated, mentored and trained by professional educators and orchestral players employed by the FSSO; from youth-level skills to eventually attaining high-level proficiency in professional symphony orchestra rehearsals and performance.
The FSSO‘s main objective is to promote the appreciation of, and participation in orchestral music, as an integral part of the cultural heritage and aspirations of all South Africans.
The orchestra will this week present a community outreach programme at five different local schools in Mangaung in order to promote classical music consumption from a young age and audience development. The FSSO also strives to reach an all inclusive audience and give back to the community by conducting these performances, simultaneously encourage social cohesion. The performances will not only be entertaining but have a strong educational focus, which encourages students to pursue an alternative career path in music.
The concerts are scheduled to take place as follows:
Wednesday 31 January, 10h00 St Michaels
Thursday, 1 February, 08h00 Martie du Plessis and 10h00 Curro
Friday, 2 February, 08h00 Tswellang Special School and 10h00 Heide Primary School
