The FSSO will combine forces with the choirs of Hoërskool Sentraal, the Cathedral Singers and cantando@bloem to conclude the year with a performance of the Requiem (Fauré) and Feel the Spirit (John Rutter). The programme will also include Fanfare for the Common Man (Copland), and a piece composed by Samro prize winner Robert Fokkens called Uhambo Olunintsi (Journeys).

Emily Dangwa completed her Opera studies with distinction in Singers Theatre and also her Postgraduate in Music performance with Distinction from the University of Cape Town in 2015 under Hanna van Niekerk and Kamal Khan. She worked in Cape Town as soprano chorus member in the Baxter Theatre in productions such as Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman and Janacek's Cunning Little Vixen. She was also a member of the Artscape Opera Company and performed in Puccini's Madame Butterfly. In Berlin she performed in Gershwin's Porgy and Bess production under the baton of Simon Rattle. Earlier this year Emily sang the soprano role in Handels Messiah at the Odeion in Bloemfontein under the baton of Leona Geldenhuys. Emily continues to pursue her vocal studies under Albertus Engelbrecht.

Mezzo-soprano Teresa de Wit has enjoyed an illustrious singing career, winning the SAMRO/Deon van der Walt Scholarship in 1999 and attending master classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria the following year. She was a member of the Cape Town Opera Studio and a soloist with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra before joining the Black Tie Ensemble in 2006. She has sung at various BTE events, including a performance at Tuynhuys during the Presidential Banquet in honour of Mr and Mrs Kofi Annan. Her stage roles include Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, and Kate Pinkerton and Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.

Thabang Senekal was born in Bloemfontein. In 2003 he passed an audition for the Black Tie Ensemble’s “Incubator” Scheme. He received vocal training from Eric Muller and was adopted by Sappi for the past eight years. In 2004 he sang the role of the Seargeant for the Black Tie Ensemble (BTE) production of Puccini’s La Bohème. In 2005 he sang the role of Marco for BTE’s production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. In 2006 he sang the role Monterone in Opera Africa’s production of Verdi’s Rigoletto. In 2007, after finishing his studies in the Incubator Scheme, Thabang joined The Black Tie Ensemble. At the end of July 2008 Thabang performed in the expert - Un Ballo in Maschera (Verdi). In June 2009 Thabang sang the role of Bogdanovitsch in The Black Tie Ensemble production of Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow. Thabang participated, in July at the 28th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna, Austria. He was also chosen to be one of the five soloists at the Renée Flemming master class in August 2009.

In 2010 he sang the role of Schaunard in Opera Africa’s production of La Bohème (Puccini). Thabang has presented the role of Germont in the Act II Vignette of La Traviata and sang the role of Gill in Susanna’s Secret (Wolf-Ferrari) in 2011 after which he was a member of the cast of Winnie The Opera, in April 2011.
In August 2011 Thabang sang the role of Enrico in BTE’s Lucia di Lammermoor Opera Vignette Production.
In April 2012 he participated in the Verdi Gala in Bloemfontein at PACOFS with the BTE VO1SS. In October 2012 he sang the role of Escamillo in the production of Carmen in Nelspruit.
In 2014 he played the lead role of Nelson Mandela in the opera, Madiba the African Opera at the South African State Theatre. In 2015 he toured Denmark mark doing concerts in Copenhagen, Vestermolle and other neighboring towns. In the very same tour he recorded a live CD with the people he toured with. Then he came back to do the leading role in Madiba The African Opera. In 2016 he did the role of Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni for Pretoria Symphonic Orchestra. And early this year 2017 he did the very same role for Salon Music at Brooklyn Theatre. He recently did the role of Sagristano in Puccini's Tosca for Pretoria Symphonic Orchestra at Pretoria State Theatre. In July 2017 he did the role of Marquise in Verdi's La Traviata.

The FSSO’s resident conductor, Alexander Fokkens will be at the podium for this exhilarating performance.
