Albertus Engelbrecht grew up on the West Coast of South Africa and
finished his B. Mus Performance in Singing, as a lyric tenor at the
University of Stellenbosch (under the tutelage of Petrus van Heerden)
and additional Studies at the Opera School of the Pretoria Technicon.
During his studies he sang the roles of Spärlich in 'Die Lustige Weiber von Windsor’, Rinuccio in 'Gianni Schicchi' , Ferrando in 'Cosi fan Tutte' and Alfred in 'Die Fledermaus'. He also was a finalist in the SAMRO Masterclasses with Deon van der Walt and sang in 'Debuut met Mimi' in 1997.
Engelbrecht established himself as concert singer after his studies and sang in many concerts parts such as, the Evangelist in Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium, solo tenor parts in Magnificat and B minor Mass, the Messiah ( Händel) and Mozart's Requiem. In Germany, Engelbrecht proceeded with his career as concert singer and sang all the major Passions of J.S. Bach in Berlin, Mainz, Frankfurt and Nuremburg.
Albertus also specialises in German Art Song and successfully gave Liederabende in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Vienna and had masterclasses in this field with Graham Johnson, Deon van der Walt, Gerda Hartman and Herman Le Roux.
