The next concert of the Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) will take
place at 19:30 on Saturday 29 October in the newly renovated Kovsie Kerk
(Church) at the corner of Nelson Mandela Drive and DF Malherbe Ave. The tenor
Makudupanyane, who recently won the 2016 National Amazwi Omzansi Singing Competition, will be the soloist in four tenor arias from operas by Mozart and
Rossini: Un Aura amarosa from Cosi fan
Tutte (Mozart), Cujus Animam from
Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Ich baue ganz auf
deine Stärke from Entführing aus dem Serail (Mozart) and Cessa di piu resistere from Barber of
Seville (Rossini).
The concert will open with the exciting Festive Overture (Shostakovich),
which will be followed by the tenor arias. After interval the FSSO conducted by
Alexander Fokkens will perform Saint-Saëns’ dramatic Symphony No. 3, also known
as the Organ Symphony because of his use of the organ in this symphony. Jan
Beukes will be playing the organ.
This concert is made possible by a grants from the National Arts Council
(NAC) and the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).
