The FSSO will be in concert Thursday,14 July 10:30am at the Odeion as part of the Vrystaat Kunstefees festivities.
The orchestra will be accompanied by South Africa’s most versatile Charl du Plessis - pianist in the astounding rendition of “Peter and the Wolf” as narrated by the enigmatic soprano Magdalene Minnaar in both English and Afrikaan. Magdalene started Little Maestros concert series when her son Jacob was 8 months old.
“Peter and the Wolf” as paraphrased by Sergei Prokofiev, tells the story of a young boy who encounters a wolf and the adventure that unfolds thereafter.
Prokofiev constructed the music as a child's introduction to the orchestra, with each character in the story represented by a different instrument or group of instruments: Peter by the strings, the bird by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, the wolf by the horn section etcetera. Walt Disney also produced an animated version of the work in 1946.
The celebrated Odeion String Quartet will also be part of the interesting and interactive showcase, together with Alexander Fokkens on the podium conducting.
Early childhood music education is probably the most important investment in a child’s life thus, parents are encouraged to bring their children to this stimulating social experience.
Tickets are available at Computicket R100 for adults and R50 for kids.
