In the spirit of the Holy Week, the
Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) presented a concert in the Anglican
Cathedral on Friday 25 March (Good Friday). The programme consisted of the
Orchestral Suite No. 3 (JS Bach) and the Concerto
for Two Violins in D minor (JS Bach) and Buxtehude’s stirringly beautiful Membra Jesu nostri (The Limbs of our Jesus, a cycle of seven cantatas about the
suffering of Jesus on the cross).
Samson Diamond and Sharon de Kock were the two violin soloists and the Buxtehude was performed by the OSM
Vocal Consort. Alexander Fokkens was the on the podium as conductor. This concert was made
possible by a grant from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC).
The concert was presented free of
charge.
